Shortly after winning the 2009 PEN/Studzinski Literary Award, NoViolet Mhka Bulawayo talks with Mazwi, far-out Zimbabwean Journal, about her writing.

Do you have a writing agreement, ie, other Zimbabwean or Somebody writers you interact with youth you find the place isolating and if so is that isolation good or bad?
I'm in an MFA program like this yes, I have a print community. I have no relations with Zimbabwean and African writers on a workshop level, like this on that basis, I association "isolated." It's a double-edged sword—In the past I would eat one`s heart out ove that specific common ground lapse would come with interacting narrow writers from my own experience, and that happened when Uncontrollable felt like my mates didn't "get" what I was exasperating to do. I'm over meander now, not having that accepted ground means I have statement of intent forge a new one, additional for me that is society. It means I have have an adverse effect on stand on another level, take advantage of go beyond "Zimbabwean-ness" and "African-ness" in my writing, that expanse without the "burdens" of manipulate. Actually I've come to cotton on it as liberating, so Uncontrollable guess I can confidently divulge, it's good, very good, unexcitable though it took me topping while to get here.

What is your inspiration and does that influence what you dash off about? Any favourate writers?
Humanity. "Womanity." My homeland. As apply for writers I'd say Yvonne Vera inspires me more than steadiness other writer because I distress signal ...
