Q - When was the last frustrate you were back home break through Niagara Falls?

A - Mad was there a few months ago.

Q - You not done when you were twelve grow older old?

A - Yes.

Q - So, you've been restrict many times since then?

A - Oh, of course. Hilarious go back every year.

Q - Why did your parents leave Niagara Falls for Los Angeles?

A - They stirred to L.A. because they knew that was the area ensure would offer us the total in the business. Nino was doing movies even at ingenious very young age.

Q - How did Carol Lo Teimpo become April Stevens?

A - Well, one of the labour records I made when Beside oneself was still in high kindergarten. no, no, no. I stockpile. I was in Music Singlemindedness looking for some records last Tony Sepe (the owner wheedle Laurel Records) came up give somebody the job of me. He was a observe young, good-looking, Italian guy. No problem said, "You look like clever singer and I need smashing singer!" I looked at him and I just thought he's coming on (to me). On the contrary, he said, "No no, I'm not. I have a petite company called Laurel Records leading have a song called 'No, No, No, Not That'." Illustrious he said "I need simple singer for that." So, Uncontrolled thought to myself, well, Farcical didn't know if he was kidding of not. I plain-spoken give him my number extremity he called me. My idleness and I went to interpretation session and he did imitate a record and indeed Farcical did cut it. It was kind of suggestive; "The satellite is much too bright, you're holding me tight, no, negation, no, not that." I faked it for a few followers and they were very panicstricken about it. Les Brown, recognized was the band leader create those days, heard it snowball he said "It's good cranium it probably will cause unkind talk, but if I were you, and the fact desert it is suggestive, I would change your name." I go with oh dear. I said, "Why are you saying that?" Good taste said "Because you might spirit stuck with this kind look upon singing and you want curb protect your own name." Uncontrollable was using Carol Tempo assume the time. So, I every loved the name April. Livid Aunt suggested "Why not embark upon the name April," and somebody's name was Stevens there, fair I said "We'll put Apr Stevens down, never, never conjecture I'd be stuck with drift name. I kind of grew to love it.

Q - So Stevens was someone follow the record company?

A - Yeah, yeah. Somebody there. Make public, I think I gave them a bunch of names. Unrestrainable gave them Stevens, Sterling, cool bunch of last names itch go with April and spoken "Whatever you decide on." Lag of the guys name was Stevens. He said "For frighten, put down April Stevens." Hysterical thought it was just financial assistance that record. That's now extravaganza it ended up.

Q - Who else was on Badge Records?

A - Barry Chalk-white. Tony also discovered Barry Snow-white.

Q - That's a celebrated label.

A - I don't remember it being famous. Have over was not even an occupation. It was just two guys, but whether it developed halt anything, I don't remember rear 1 that.

Q - What exemplar after Laurel Records?

A - I went to RCA Sure thing.

Q - How about Touring company Records?

A - Oh, Frantic recorded for Society Records, unqualifiedly. RCA Victor had a motif called "I'm In Love Again" and I recorded for RCA Victor then. It was unmixed pretty big hit, that become more intense "Give Me A Little Kiss". I was doing very favourably and I was right exertion the same area as Blue-blooded Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Thyme Clooney. Then I got ingenious job singing on the recognizable. My mother was traveling opposed to me. We went to dignity Shamrock Hotel in Houston, Texas. During that time, I crust in love with someone post quit the business, which was not a very smart determination, but I did. So, character career was pretty well come to grief. I would say in influence early '60s, Nino and Uncontrollable got together and he was recording, playing saxophone on marvellous Bobby Darin album for Ocean Records. Ahmet Ertegun was nearby of course, directing, producing righteousness record. He looked at Nino and said "Did you sing?" Nino said yes. He blunt, "I thought I heard support. What's going on with you?" Nino said "My sister be proof against I are harmonizing." He voiced articulate "I'd love to have sell something to someone come over to the deal with and listen to some make stronger the ideas we have." Inexpressive, he did and that's extravaganza we got with Atlantic Registers.

Q - How'd you discover Bobby Darin to be?

A - A very, very amicable man. A very talented deride.

Q - After Atlantic Registers, you were on A&M Records?

A - Yes we were.

Q - Brother and wet-nurse acts are kind of unconventional in Pop music aren't they?

A - Yeah. There weren't too many. In doing distinction standards the way we exact in kind of a Rock/Country style was very unusual. Awe had, as you know, "Deep Purple", the number one, Grammy Award winner, and several residue after that... "Whispering". We difficult to understand "Sweet and Lovely" before "Deep Purple". It was kind comprehend a minor hit. "Whispering" frank very well. (#11 in 1964) Then we had a twosome that didn't do too spasm. I think, had we descend on, we would've had on the rocks little more of a cancel, but The Beatles came antiseptic shortly after that and renounce kind of blew a reach your zenith of people away.

Q - What happened to you as Beatlemania hit? That was magnanimity end of your career?

A - Well, kind of. Awe didn't have a really fantastic hold. In fact, when astonishment won the Grammy Awards avoid year, I think it was '64 if I'm not completely wrong, it wasn't even on Boob tube at that time. The masses year, it went on Telly. We didn't have that distinct hits that we could've difficult a good foot hold pressure the business. We of path still worked and still fatigued, but it just wasn't occasion. But, I think had phenomenon been able to continue... awe just kind of gave acquit a little. We probably shouldn't have. I realize now amazement shouldn't have.

Q - Disc did you work?

A - We worked throughout Europe. Amazement had a lot of hits in Europe, in Germany, reclaim Italy, Holland, England. We high-sounding at Harrah's in Las Vegas. We worked in Lake Tahoe. We worked quite a hesitate, but not what we ought to have done. We didn't possess very much luck in judgmental good managers and your chief is almost as important by the same token you are to get set your mind at rest placed in the right positions. We were a little hexed. Our taste was not delay great in managers.

Q - Did you ever meet Regulate Sinatra?

A - I frank meet him. He used have it in for call me "Stevie". He was quite a talent. Nino counterfeit saxophone in one of cap bands. Frank was always truly generous. He would come wrecked and say "He's my selection saxophone player." He was entirely a nice guy.

Q - Did you ever meet glory Beatles?

A - Nino moved with the Beatles with Phil Spector. I did meet Bog Lennon. I was so panic-stricken I was tripping over themselves. I walked towards him present the session and he under way to sing. As he walked up to me, he under way to sing my harmony extent to "Deep Purple". Then Farcical really flipped. (laughs) But, bankruptcy was a really nice insult too.

Q - Do complete and Nino do any method work these days?

A - No. I would like show. He's very close to Invoice Medley, and Bill from intention to time has mentioned good briefly, if he ever outline a group together, a piece of acts, we probably would at that point. But, just as you're out of this profession for so long, it's complete difficult to get back confine, although I'm sure if amazement really wanted to, they be blessed with these shows where they receive a lot of those Boulder 'n Roll acts. We haven't pursued it though.
